Wolfeboro, New Hampshire could always use more tourism and a client of mine wanted a pocket-sized map to bring more tourism to the town and show off what the surrounding area has to offer.

The majority of tourists visit New Hampshire in the summer, so we wanted the map to reflect a hot, breezy, lakeside vibe. The town of Wolfeboro has a lot of history and we wanted the graphic elements to reflect that, so we agreed on using vintage illustrations from heritagetype.com.
Proof of Concept
Process: After looking at a few provided map style examples, the client knew they wanted to go a hand-drawn visual direction. The map also needed to exude summer—their biggest month for tourism. They liked my drafts of the lake (below) right away.
Exploration: I continued to iterate and explore with stylized typography that added fun, classy personality, and, played around with a bright, summery color palette.
Putting it all together: With the main components of the visual direction fleshed out, all that remained was to add POIs & make it cohesive.
